Introducing Melbourne’s first Elita laser

The SILK procedure is the next generation minimally invasive laser eye surgery . Rather than creating a flap in the cornea like traditional LASIK surgery, this procedure is performed through a keyhole incision.

A lentil-shaped piece of corneal tissue is removed through the keyhole incision in order to flatten the central cornea and treat myopia and astigmatism.

SILK is similar to LASIK in that it offers patients independence from their glasses with rapid visual recovery.

But lenticular surgery has the following advantages:

  • No corneal flap means the strength of the cornea is maintained throughout the lifespan without risk of flap dislocation
  • Flapless surgery means patients can continue to live an active lifestyle
  • This is particularly important for those in the police force, military, martial arts or other contact sports including elite sports players, who previously would have had to have PRK which has a slower visual recovery

SILK leverages advanced technology to elevate surgeon experience and patient outcomes:

  • Highly focused, low energy laser pulses for better quality treatment of the corneal tissue
  • A proprietary biconvex lenticule shape  designed to deliver better quality of vision and improved corneal nerve protection for a healthier ocular surface
  • Ultra-fast delivery system to facilitate smooth corneal incisions
